Bryan,
I can understand your frustration with the Emergent Church. I too find myself wrestling with the inevitable question, "How is this more than a social gospel?". But have you ever read Pagitt's "Preaching Reimagined"? It's a fascinating critique of how we do preaching (Pagitt calls it "speaching") and how amid postmodernity's (since postmodernity seems to be a reality, rather than a theory) desire for people to be more a part of a "progressional dialogue" rather than a continuation of the tradition of someone speaking at us, something has got to give The educational system has modeled this changing cultural value...sometimes it baffles me that the church fails to even explore idea of changing the way we preach.
I, for one, appreciate how you allow for questions on Monday nights...it's refreshing.
Here's my point: maybe what we can glean from the Emergent church isn't so much theological than liturgical? Maybe as a consequence we wouldn't have to totally demonize the movement or fad or whatever we call it?
