“Married People Should Get It On. A Lot.” (Screwed-Up Saints, Part 28)

getiton.png Sorry for the delay, everyone! In case you weren’t aware, we have been doing live text-in Q&A after each message for the past two weeks, and will continue to do it until people stop asking questions about 1 Corinthians 7.  The Q&A is podcasted as well.  And this one got interesting. Enjoy.

The audio of the twenty-eighth message from the SCREWED-UP SAINTS series, “Married People Should Get It On. A Lot.” (1 Cor. 7:3-5) is now online.

Here are the small-group discussion/personal application questions:

Getting to know you: What living person inspires you and how are you a bit like them?

Have someone in the group read 1 Corinthians 7.3-5 out loud.

1. What in the sermon or Q&A time was helpful, surprising, or that you disagreed with?  Are there questions your small group wants to make sure get asked next week?

2. The Bible talks about sex freely, frankly, and frequently.  In your experience, how does this match up with how people in church talk about sex?  Why do you think this is?

3. How would you respond to someone who insists that the main or even the only thing sex is meant for is procreation?

4. When Paul explains, in verse 4, that the husband’s sexuality is under the wife’s authority and that the wife’s sexuality is under the husband’s authority, what two things is he trying to do in marriages?

5. What was the “take away” from this message for you (whether you’re single or married)?  How did it shape your understanding of sex?

Next Week: “Singleness Revisited” : 1 Corinthians 7:6-9

  1. I read an interesting article about the Vietnamese attitudes toward sex, and it appears to have an uneasy resemblance to the American church’s view of the subject:

  2. hello pb,

i am not sure if you remember who i am, but i had emailed you (this past summer) inquisitively seeking to know a little more about the fusion community… i’mb buddies with mr. mcinnis… well, here i am again. this time however i simply want to extend a word of thanks.

i am one that is knitted together with a love of learning. i’m like a crusted sponge that cannot seem to soak in enough of the quenching lessons and wisdom of life. with this, i enjoy listening to podcasts from strong teachers like pastor john piper, pastor rob bell, and the jewels that come from the fusion community!

the sermons focused on sex have completely rocked. and the reason they rock so royally is that you are willing to teach so authentically and say it how it is. this makes learning so much more enjoyable! i appreciate the ways you open up the floor and invite the community to ask questions – that is of paramount radness.

so, cheers to you my friend and fellow blogger (everyone should blog!). thank you for your faithfulness to christ.

    sincerely,
    brianna millett
