Constantly Long and Breathe After Deliverance from the Power of Sin
Part 5 of 10 of “On the Mortification of Sin in Believers”
Do not allow your heart, even for one moment, to be content with your present condition. Longing, desiring, and panting after deliverance from sin is a grace in and of itself, and has a mighty God-given power to conform the soul into the likeness of the virtue desired. Unless we long for and deeply desire deliverance from our sins, we shall never have it. Plead, like David, “…I am ready to fall, and my pain is ever before me. I confess my iniquity; I am sorry for my sin. …Do not forsake me, O LORD! O my God, be not far from me! Make haste to help me, O Lord, my salvation!” (Ps. 38:17, 21-22).
