Calvination Ruling the Nation

calvin.jpgCalzizzle fo’ shizzle.

Time Magazine has identified the “New Calvinism” as one of the ten Ideas Changing the World Right Now.  Huh.  Cool. That’s my take.

It’s a very fair article.  I really appreciated the author’s playful jabs, his lack of acidic sarcasm, and his generally charitable portrayal.

Ted Olson’s quote in the article was pretty great.  He said, in reference to the Neo-Calvinist movement: “Everyone knows where the energy and the passion are in the Evangelical world.”

Here’s Mark Driscoll’s take, which notes some differences between “Old” and “New Calvinism,” as well as Justin Taylor’s take.

  1. Darius,

Did you agree with that post? He seemed to me just to be like another angry Calvinist who just doesn’t like that Driscoll and Mars Hill haven’t adopted the Westminster or Heidelberg Confession as the end-all-be-all of how to think about Scripture and the church.

  2. I didn’t say I agreed with that second guy, just pointing out that Driscoll is hearing about his rather uncharitable post. The second link there isn’t particularly charitable either, and no, I didn’t particularly agree with it (though some of it is above my layman head).

  3. Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification, bud.

Don’t give me that “above my layman head” stuff. You’ve got a big brain and you know it.

Please contribute to a respectful, charitable conversation...
